So who is it that, wants to maim and kill?
Who profits from war?
Could it be the wealthy?
Could it be the most powerful people on planet earth?
Do you or I profit from war?
No neither you nor I increase our personal financial status by sending military troops around the planet!
No; war is a financial burden to all working class people.
More important war destroys our moral character!
Am I talking about the war on Eurasia only?
No; I’m talking about the war on the people.
What do you mean;”the war on the people?”
I’m talking about multinational corporate control of the world economy.
Who profits by war on other nations?
The wealthiest and most powerful people in the world do.
Who profits by war on the people?
The most affluent and most overpowering people in the world do.
We have devolved into a state of pseudo slavery.
People around the world work for a pittance.
People in the United States, No longer work for a living wage.
War on others and on ourselves costs you and me a fortune.
So where is the money?
The wealthy have it.
Why do they have it?
Because they are at war on the people of the world!
What can we the people do to reverse the tide?
Educate ourselves – don’t believe what our government tells us.
Organize the working class; organize people who are materially poor.
Educate ourselves; don’t believe what the power elite wants us to accept as true.
We the people need to rule.
Our “elected” - appointed policy makers have sold us into plutocracy.
Does this sound like slavery to you? It does to me!
Plutocracy; government by the affluent.
So what do we the people need to do to control our lives?
We need to restrain our government!
So what do we the people need to do to enhance the quality of life for all people and planet earth?
We the people need to take control of and reverse the philosophy of the same corporations that are enslaving working people all over planet earth!>
I’ll say it again.
We the people need to control our government and business and industry.
The “capitalist” class has sold us to plutocracy.
The Working class needs to rectify this wrong!
Am I suggesting a revolution?
Call it what you want.
I take the following statement from our Declaration of Independence of the United States of America
“whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government,”
So what do you think?
Can you live on $5.15 per hour? Be honest with your self. Like Bob Dylan said, "how does it feel to be without a home?" Yeah, how does it feel?
Hmm... at today's gas prices you may be able to purchase two gallons of gas with five dollars and fifteen cents. That's if you're buying your gas from the cheapest vendor. Remember... people living on minimum wage usually can't afford the economy cars. No because of their low income they have to drive around in old model, high mileage, gas guzzling clunkers. Or, five dollars and fifteen cents may allow you to buy a loaf and a half of bread. To paraphrase Dylan, how does it feel having to scrounge for your next meal? Yeah, how does it feel?
On October 20, 2005 the U.S. Senate voted down legislation that would increase the federal minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $6.25 an hour. This increase would have melded in over an 18-month period.
Note, the federal minimum wage has not been increased since 1997. Now, are you ready for the real shocker? During the same period of time the U.S. Congress has opposed a minimum wage increase, they have voted themselves seven pay raises totaling $28,000.
You say, "so what, Washington State minimum wage is $7.35 an hour and some other states also require a higher minimum wage than the feds." Nonetheless, I'm asking you to have compassion for those who are forced to work at the federal minimum wage level.
Did I find this story on the front page of my local newspapers? Hell no! I found out because I pay attention to issues like this. Our local newspapers don't want us to know about concerns like this because higher minimum wages affect them and their advertisers.
Well, I'm thinking ....does someone have to join the U.S. Military and go kill innocent humans in Iraq to make more than $5.15 per hour? In other words, is this a covert way to populate the military?
This saddens, sickens and infuriates me! How can we stand by and let our fellow sisters and brothers work for below poverty wages. There is no way these folks can get their heads above water working at the federal minimum wage level. They are drowning in a sea of poverty while we sit back and watch it happen. Compare this thought with one of seeing some human or other living creature drowning in a lake or river. Would you stand by and watch them struggle for each breath of life? Better yet how would you feel gasping for air as you go down seeing your life pass before your eyes and watching everyone on shore looking at you and saying you can make it working for poverty wages?
To add insult to injury opponents of a living wage say a living wage is bad for business. Well if business can't afford to pay its employees a living wage they don't deserve to be in business! Remember, its your sweat that creates the profits for the employers. The bottom line for me and I hope for you, let the employer make less and the worker more! If it weren’t for the worker there would be no employer.
Here we go again. A few weeks ago I wrote an article about the refusal of the U.S. Congress to increase the federal minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $6.25 over the next eighteen months.
I’m sure you’ve seen these messages on motor vehicles; “Support our Troops.” Newspapers and electronic media shout in large type and voice, “Support our Troops!” Your neighbors and friends have probably mentioned it a few times also. If you’re a church goer you have most likely heard the same message, “Support our Troops,” “Support our Troops!” If you have attended any town hall meetings facilitated by your local, state or federal policy makers you have heard the same message, we must “Support our Troops.” I’m sure you have even heard this message from peace activists who I have heard say “we never should have attacked Iraq but we must, “Support our Troops!”
Well, the United States Senate did it again; on November 9th 2005 they refused to augment by a maximum of $3,000.00 per month the salary of National Guard members who were serving fulltime consecutively for more then six months.
Along with being terribly angry with the members of the U.S. Senate who voted against the initiative of “supporting our troops”, I wonder how it would feel to them if the shoe were on the other foot? I wonder if they have “Support our Troops” stickers on their motor vehicles? Why don’t they practice what they preach?
To demonstrate the incongruence of their actions I thought I would show you, the reader, some facts regarding who makes how much and let you decide if our National Guard troops deserve our financial support.
For example, A Private’s (E1-E2) monthly pay rate starts at $1,235.10 this amounts to $14,821.20 per year A Private First Class (E3) salary begins at $1,456.20 per month bringing their annual income to $17,474.40. A Corporal’s (E4) Monthly pay jumps to $1,612.80per month, making their annual National Guard income a whopping $19,353.60. Now please remember these people’s lives are on the line in battle torn Eurasia. Many of them are being severely wounded and some are being killed. Many are returning to the United States missing legs and or arms. Many are returning blind or paralyzed. Some return with psychological wounds that will never heal and forever damage their family lives.
Now are you ready to find out how much the members of the United States Senate make? The current salary for the rank-and-file members of the United States Congress and Senate is $158,100 per year. These members also receive a per-diem “augmentation” for every day they are in session.
The senate Majority and Minority Leaders receive $175,600 plus bennies. While in the lower house; the Speaker of the House receives $203,000 and the Majority and Minority Leaders receive $175,600 per year and it appears whatever else they think they are entitled to.
Oh, by the way, I hope you remember the U.S. Senate Budget Chair, Senator Judd Gregg who won $853,492 in a Powerball Lottery a month ago and said he would do with the winnings, “whatever his wife tells him.” Well he voted against this amendment as he did against an increase in the federal $5.15 per hour minimum wage. I wonder if his wife tells him how to vote in the U.S. Senate also?
Now for the salaries of the two people who swayed the congress and the people of the United States on the need to invade Iraq. Effective as of January 1, 2001, the annual salary for the president of the United States was increased to $400,000 per year, including a $50,000 expense allowance. The salary of the vice president as of 2004, is $202,900
Now I want to ask you a question. How many members of the U.S. Congress have been maimed or injured as a result of our military actions? Has the president or vice president of the United States or anyone from their administration been maimed or killed as a result of this war on Iraq?
Well let me answer the above question and at the same time make a suggestion. No, no member of congress, our president, vice president nor members of their staff or administration have been maimed or killed as a result of their aggression. Now my suggestion. Lets reverse the salary of our congress-members who consistently oppose efforts to “Support our Troops” and give their salaries to our troops. Lets take the money our troops are receiving and give it to the president, vice president and bestow their salaries to the military troops serving in action.
You say so what. These folks volunteered. They knew what they were getting into. I don’t agree. I don’t think the majority of these folks thought they would be going into armed battle within a country on the other side of the planet. I believe they thought they were volunteering for duty with the “National” Guard not the “International” Guard. I believe these volunteers wanted to assist with saving lives not to maim or take the life of others like themselves or to be injured or killed by the opposition.
In conclusion, I want to end on a brighter note; I’m pleased to say that our Washington State U.S. Senators voted in favor of this amendment to Senate Bill 1042. Thank you Senator Cantwell and Senator Murray. I ask you to do as our Washington State U.S. Senators did, put pressure on President Bush’s administration and the rest of the congress to “Support our Troops” in reality not in rhetoric!

March 19th 2003:
The official announcement of the beginning of this war on Iraq.
>Are Main Stream Media Reporters inferior? I don’t think so.
Are Main Stream Media editors swayed by management? Possibly.
Are Main Stream Media Owners afraid to embarrass and alienate their advertisers? I suspect they are. After all, newspapers survive on the income from advertising, not from subscriptions.
Let me begin by stating in all of my research I have found no conclusive evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction that are a threat to us presently nor in the near future. Actually, I am finding more valid evidence pointing to the contrary. Some of this information has been gleaned from recent CIA and FBI statements.
For example, our own CIA has proclaimed Iraq is not a threat to us. They have stated that Saddam Hussein is not connected, nor has he been connected, to Al Qaeda. United States intelligence sources have informed us that Saddam had nothing to do with the September 11th attack on the Trade Towers.
A letter from CIA Director George J. Tenet to Congress has brought into public view divisions within the Bush administration over what intelligence shows about Iraq's intentions and its willingness to ally itself with the Al Qaeda terrorist organization.
The letter, together with other reports from the CIA, paints a worrisome picture of Iraq's pursuit of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. But it does not promote the White House's view that Iraq presents an immediate threat to the American homeland and may use Al Qaeda to carry out attacks. "Baghdad for now appears to be drawing a line short of conducting terrorist attacks with conventional or CBW against the United States," Tenet's letter read, referring to chemical and biological weapons. "Should Saddam conclude that a U.S. - led attack could no longer be deterred he probably would become much less constrained in adopting terrorist actions." "The agency line is that it is basically unlikely that Iraq would give weapons of mass destruction to terrorists under most circumstances," said Kenneth M. Pollack, who worked as a military analyst at the CIA
“The White House assertion of a terrorist link hits an emotional chord and plays on the American sense of vulnerability, said Daniel Benjamin, a former expert on terrorism for the National Security Council…” Benjamin “has asserted that there is not a strong connection.”
There is no evidence linking Saddam Hussein with Osama bin Laden or Al Qaeda. Reports tell us he “hates” fundamentalist Muslims. Of course when we force him in a corner, via our war on Iraq, if he has weapons of mass destruction he may use them. And/or he may share them with Al Qaeda to be used on us.
“We are about to do something that could ignite a fuse in this region that we will rue the day we ever started.” General Anthony Zinni, USMC retired.
Thursday, April 3, 2003 Congressman Kucinich Takes To House Floor Vows To Oppose Supplemental; Offers Amendment to Bring Troops Home “I support the troops. But, this war is illegal and wrong. I do not support this mission. I will not vote to fund this Administration’s war in Iraq.”
“This war is not about defending the United States from a foreign threat in Iraq. This war is not about the U.S. trying to save or liberate the Iraqi people. This is not about an Iraqi nuclear threat. Iraq did not attack the United States. The United Nations (UN) did not approve this war as being necessary to protect international security. In addition, this Administration did not provide evidence for its claims that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMD) prior to military conflict. And, several key pieces of evidence have been shown to be fraudulent. “
Foreign Desk | February 2, 2003, Sunday THREATS AND RESPONSES: TERROR LINKS; Split at C.I.A. and F.B.I. On Iraqi Ties to Al Qaeda “Some analysts at the Central Intelligence Agency have complained that senior administration officials have exaggerated the significance of some intelligence reports about Iraq, particularly about its possible links to terrorism, in order to strengthen their political argument for war… ” “At the Federal Bureau of Investigation, some investigators said they were baffled by the Bush Administration’s insistence on a solid link between Iraq and Osama bin Laden’s network.” “We’ve been looking at this hard for more than a year and you know what, we just don’t think it’s there.” James Risen and David Johnston, New York Times, 2/2/03.
On the other hand we have people believing as stated 3/19/03 Columbian Letter to the Editor “I believe Saddam Hussein’s Iraq did attack our beautiful America.”
This kind of thinking is counter productive and scary in light of some of our own intelligence reports speaking to the converse. Our own intelligence resources say they have no proof that Saddam Hussein had anything to do with the September 11th 2001 attack on the USA.
THE SECURITY COUNCIL, 27 JANUARY 2003: AN UPDATE ON INSPECTION Executive Chairman of UNMOVIC, Dr. Hans Blix “We have now an inspection apparatus that permits us to send multiple inspection teams every day all over Iraq, by road or by air. Let me end by simply noting that that capability which has been built-up in a short time and which is now operating, is at the disposal of the Security Council.”
“Successful disarmament of Iraq is possible with Baghdad’s active cooperation.” Hans Blix, Chief U.N. Weapons Inspector, Reuter’s 2/7/03
Let me ask: o Who gave Saddam Hussein the biological germs? The government of the U.S.A. did. o Who trained Osama bin Laden? The government of the U.S.A. did. o Who was chummy with Saddam Hussein when he was President CEO of Halliburton? Dick Cheney was. Why? Because it meant profits for Halliburton. o Will Halliburton profit by re-building Iraq? You bet they will. They are already contracted to do so. o Who negotiated with the Taliban in 1998, in Texas to place a pipeline through Afghanistan? Union 76 and Halliburton negotiated with them and the Taliban said no to the pipeline. o Who armed and trained the terrorists, such as Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden?
The government of the U.S.A. did.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 2 Oct. 2002 Contact Person: Gary Treece VETERANS GROUP CALLS FOR RUMSFELD RESIGNATION The American Gulf War Veterans Association (AGWVA) now calls for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. “In response to questioning by Sen. Robert C. Byrd, (D-WV), Rumsfeld denied any knowledge that the United States had shipped biological weapons to Iraq during the 1980’s. Rumsfeld was addressing the Armed Services Committee last week, when he stated that he “…had no knowledge of any such shipments and doubted that they ever occurred.”
“There is no disputing the evidence that the U.S. provided bacteria and viruses as evidenced by Senate Report 103-900, “United States Dual-Use Exports To Iraq And Their Impact On the Health of The Persian Gulf War Veterans,” dated May 25,1994, chaired by Sen. Donald Riegle (D-MI) of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. This Senate report was available to all senators and listed among other items, Bacillus Anthracis, (anthrax) Clostridium botulinum, and West Nile Fever Virus as pathogens that were shipped to Iraq in the 1980’s with the full knowledge of the Department of Commerce and the CDC.”
“There is no question that the Secretary of Defense must be informed and up to date with information about a potential military enemy and his military capabilities. Mr. Rumsfeld’s statements demonstrate that this is clearly not the case.”
“If our Secretary of Defense is unaware of the sales of biological materials to a country with which we are about to go to war, or if he is in denial over the fact that these sales occurred, the AGWVA believes that he represents a clear and present danger to the lives of our military, our country, and the American people, and should be considered a very serious threat to the national security. It is for this reason that the AGWVA calls for his resignation and removal from office.”
I understand some members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff feel the same way about Mr. Rumsfeld.
Now here’s something to think about:
There are a number of four-star generals such as Anthony Zinni, Brent Scowcroft, Norman Schwarzkopf, who have spoken against a pre-emptive strike against Iraq. Generals in the Pentagon, generals among the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Staffers in the White House and the Congress who have proclaimed no to this insanity.
How long do you think Eurasia has been on the Geopolitical agenda as a necessity for the USA to maintain it’s dominance as the world’s single power?
Zbigniew Brzezinski, President Carter’s Security Adviser pointed out in his 1997 book The Grand Chessboard:
The United States is the first truly world power.
For the USA to maintain that position they need control over Eurasia.
The USA needs a reason to take control of Eurasia. I ask, was the Trade Tower attack the foot in the door for the USA?
He also points out that there are similarities between our empire and the Roman Empire.
At one time the Roman Empire had a legion of 300,000 men. Sound familiar?
There were many reasons the Roman and other Empires fell apart.
The USA is headed in the same direction for the same reasons. Empire becomes too expensive.
Geographically the Empire’s resources and control are stretched to far from it’s home base. The Herald Monterey County - Posted on Fri, Nov. 08, 2002 WEBB: DON'T ATTACK IRAQ Former Marine urges restraint By ALEX FRIEDRICH link Monterey Herald “A former Cabinet member (James Webb) under former President Ronald Reagan told military officers Thursday in Monterey that the United States should not invade Iraq… Webb said that without a clear understanding of consequences - or a clear exit strategy - U.S. forces face a decades-long occupation that could sap American resolve and resources… Despite the size of the U.S. armed forces, he said, a collection of 1.5 million troops "is not that many" if it's spread out over the world. There are a lot of recently retired officers with experience who are concerned."
3/19/03 in an ATT poll asking “Do you think a war with Iraq will increase or decrease terrorism? “it was reported that out of 24,422 Voters
54% felt there would be an increase in terrorism.
24% felt there would be a decrease and
22% responded that there would be no difference.
Is it easier to go along and get along with the government? Even when we know our government is wrong. Even when there is concrete evidence that shows us what we are doing is dishonest, illegal and immoral. I ask, why are we so ready to kill innocent people on pseudo/fraudulent evidence provided by an illegal administration? Those who deny the real evidence because it is easier to be “patriotic” as defined by a nation of warmongers are as guilty of killing innocent humans as those who have led us into this illegal war.
It is said that Saddam has murdered and tortured thousands of people. Ok let’s say that’s true. Now think about this. Since we established the sanctions on the people of Iraq “we” are responsible for more than one million Iraqi deaths. More than one half of these deaths are children. The United Nations estimate, that we will kill another five hundred thousand Iraqi people with this war. Weighing this scenario, who is the real “Axis of Evil?” Could it be Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld? Or is it because we are a warrior nation!
Is it possible we are being fooled by our administration’s weapons of mass distraction and the lack of Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction? Are the Bush weapons of mass distraction designed to cover up problems like, the fact we have lost more than two and a half million jobs since this Resident was appointed to what used to be an elected position. Could it be that working class people are no longer sure if their retirement funds are going to be there? I remember a past administration’s mantra being “it’s the economy stupid.” Is this administration’s mantra associated with a shell game?
If the Resident and his administration believe that what we are doing is the right thing for humanity, why are none of their children in Iraq fighting this war? Why aren’t Mr. Bush’s daughters fighting with the troops in Iraq? Why is it that out of five hundred and thirty five members of congress there is only one (Sen. Johnson of South Dakota) with a family member fighting this war? Is this one of the reasons the congress has entered this war so readily? Hell, none of their children have to fight for the well being of the planet, oops I mean multinationalism.
Please check me if I am wrong, I understand Colin Powell is the only member of our administration who has actually served in combat. Are you aware of the resident’s military career? Check it out you might be surprised.
Many years ago I attended a presentation by a Superior Court Judge. I will never forget one of his statements. “When archeologists dig up the remains of our society here in the USA and consider our carnage around the world, they will determine we were the most violent society to set foot on this planet.” When I look around, read and listen and observe our inhumanity I have to agree with him.
Gore Vidal points out in his 2002 book Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace: “In these several hundred wars against Communism, terrorism, drugs or sometimes nothing much, between Pearl Harbor and Tuesday September 11th 2001, we tended to strike the first blow. But then we were the good guys, right? Right.”
Here's a list of the countries that the U.S. has bombed since
the end of World War II, compiled by historian William Blum:
China 1945-46
Korea 1950-53
China 1950-53
Guatemala 1954
Indonesia 1958
Cuba 1959-60
Guatemala 1960
Congo 1964
Peru 1965
Laos 1964-73
Vietnam 1961-73
Cambodia 1969-70
Guatemala 1967-69
Grenada 1983
Libya 1986
El Salvador 1980s
Nicaragua 1980s
Panama 1989
Iraq 1991-99
Sudan 1998
Afghanistan 1998
Yugoslavia 1999
According to Blum, "In none of these cases did a democratic
government, respectful of human rights, occur as a direct result."
Oregonian 3/15/03 Congressman John Lewis was quoted as saying. “War is easy. To bring about peace is a little more difficult… We have this fast-food mentality that we can get it and get it now. But in the long run, that will not establish a lasting peace.”
It is not easy to be a Peacemaker in a society conditioned to believing their country is the most powerful in the world. What does this tell us? Think about it. Be honest with yourself, what makes a world power? Have we become a world power through altruism alone? Will our attack on Iraq be the first time we were the aggressor? Is this really our first “pre-emptive” strike? Lets face the truth, we live in a society that has and still is exploiting most of the planet’s resources and people so we may maintain our materialistic lifestyle. Can we maintain this lifestyle by altruism only?
Interesting how militaristic and materialistic sound the same.
Our Armed Forces are not fighting for liberty they are fighting for multinational corporations. They are not fighting for your security or for the security of your loved ones. They are not in combat for democracy of the masses. Our military, especially our younger members think and believe with all their hearts passion that they are fighting for the betterment of the world. In reality they are fighting for corporatism.
Yes these generous fighting Americans will be maimed and killed for the wealthiest and most powerful people on the planet. They will come back to a government refusing to acknowledge their commitment to altruism.
Their families will suffer great anxiety and sadness over their loved ones who are unwittingly killing innocent people to promote the most powerful and further enrich the wealthiest people on planet earth.
On Friday April 4th I read a sad commentary, a Letter to the Editor The Columbian Newspaper Vancouver, WA that proclaimed we not be concerned with the lives of Iraqi civilians during this war. “One American soldier is more important to me than any number of Iraqi civilians.” My view is very different; I maintain all life on planet earth is sacred. Hopefully I will always educate others to maintain that value.
The writer of this April 4th Letter to the Editor also stated “We should care about our American soldiers enough to let them win this war overwhelmingly. This includes all the fighting we’ll need to do after Iraq, possibly in Iran, North Korea and Syria.”
Rumor has it that’s exactly what the people who have instigated this war on Iraq intend to do next. Check it out.
Oh I don’t want to forget that the president has been quoted as saying “I’m going to get Saddam because he tried to kill my father.” "I hope we shall... crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country." --Thomas Jefferson to George Logan, 1816.
"The selfish spirit of commerce... knows no country, and feels no passion or principle but that of gain." --Thomas Jefferson to Larkin Smith, 1809.
“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country... Corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong it’s reign by working upon the prejudices of people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.” Abraham Lincoln, 1864
This war – invasion – pre-emptive slaughter of other human beings is about increasing world power for the most powerful. Not for you not for me. Not for the people of Iraq. Not for Europe, Africa, the near or far East or any other country or nation. This event is for world domination, by and for wealthy powerful individuals using the name, good will of the people and the resources of the United States and the illusion of democracy. Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933, by Major General Smedley Butler, USMC.
Link General Smedley Butler"“War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses."”
Who is the “small inside group” directing this war? Think about it don’t just lie down and accept everything the powers to be and the mainstream media tell you. Remember the “mainstream media” is paid for by the same corporations who are benefitting from this war. Smedley Butler also said, “I spent 33 years (in the Marines) . . . most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism . . .” Is this what we want our young kids fighting for?
Today 3/28/03 two articles in the Oregonian “Soldier’s circle holds memories.” Nineteen-year-old local Oregonian man killed in Iraq. “Marine felled in Iraq will be missed by many in Corvallis.”
A thirty one year old man lost his life in Iraq also. Did these young men give their lives for democracy or oligarchy? Is this what we want Americans killing innocent children and civilians in Iraq for?
"According to a UN document for the planning of humanitarian relief, the expected outcomes of a US campaign of bombing and invasion includes:"
• 500,000 civilian casualties
• 2,000,000 people homeless
• 10,000,000 people without enough to eat
• 18,000,000 without access to clean water
• More than 1,000,000 children under the age of 5, at risk of death from malnutrition.
“This war, should it come, is intended to mark the official emergence of the United States as a full-fledged global empire, seizing sole responsibility and authority as planetary policeman. It would be the culmination of a plan 10 years or more in the making, carried out by those who believe the United States must seize the opportunity for global domination, even if it means becoming the "American imperialists" that our enemies always claimed we were.”
“Yet this peace we seek cannot be born of fear alone: it must be rooted in the lives of nations. There must be justice; sensed and shared by all peoples, for, without justice the world can know only a tense and unstable truce. There must be law, steadily invoked and respected by all nations, for without law, the world promises only such meager justice as the pity of the strong upon the weak. But the law of which we speak, comprehending the values of freedom, affirms the equality of all nations, great and small.” Dwight D. Eisenhower Second Inaugural Address Monday, January 21, 1957
I believe all of us know what Eisenhower said about the “military industrial complex.” Was he right? Is this the era we are living in? If so, what’s next?
“Despite the ferocity of the assault on Vietnam, the U.S. was ultimately defeated by a lightly armed but determined peasant army.” From Addicted to War: Why the U.S. Can’t Kick Militarism. On the other hand, I appreciate the last paragraph in today’s 3/19/03 Columbian Editorial, ANOTHER DEATH: “Once we begin to treat all the victims of Israel – Palestine violence as our own children, perhaps the world can find the wisdom and the will to finally make it stop.”
We need to think about the attack on Iraq in the same manner. We are all children of children before us. We need to move from a hate based view of people from other lands to a Love based embracement of their color and culture.
Glenn Kessler and Mike Allen Washington Post reported Monday, February 24, 2003; Page A1:
“The messages from U.S. embassies around the globe have become urgent and disturbing: Many people in the world increasingly think President Bush is a greater threat to world peace than Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.”
“U.S. embassies are the eyes and ears of the U.S. government overseas, and their reports from the field are closely read at the State Department. The antiwar protests by millions of people Feb. 15 in the cities of major U.S. allies underscored a theme that the classified cables by U.S. embassies had been reporting for weeks.”
“Former South African president Nelson Mandela has criticized US President George W Bush over Iraq, saying the sole reason for a possible US-led attack would be to gain control of Iraqi oil.” He further stated, “The US stance on Iraq is "arrogant" and would cause "a holocaust." He also asked, “Why does the United States behave so arrogantly?"
The losers in this travesty will be children, people like you and me. Trying to raise a family and live in a peaceful and loving community. The earth, water, air and every living creature will be negatively affected in one way or another.
The beneficiaries: are/will further benefit multinational corporations – the oil boys and girls Candoleezza Rice. After all one of the oil companies named an oil tanker, a ship after her. I think it was named for her by Chevron. Last but not least, the military arms manufactures.
""One of the most basic principles for making and keeping peace within and between nations . . . is that in political, military, moral, and spiritual confrontations, there should be an honest attempt at the reconciliation of differences before resorting to combat." – Jimmy Carter
Yet, our president is defying treaty after treaty, from global warming to arms control. Treaties that were designed for the betterment and protection of the planet we all share. He is also in open defiance of the World Court and the United Nations.
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.” - Dwight D. Eisenhower
""We will not build a peaceful world by following a negative path. It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it. We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war but the positive affirmation of peace... Somehow, we must transform the dynamics of the world power struggle from the negative nuclear arms race, which no one can win, to a positive contest to harness humanity's creative genius for the purpose of making peace and prosperity a reality for all the nations of the world. In short, we must shift the arms race into a peace race." - Martin Luther King"
In Britain’s Parliament 3/18 Labor’s John Denham blamed the US for failure to build an international consensus for action against Iraq. After resigning as Home Office minister over the government's stance, he accused America of having "thrown away the sympathy of the world". He also warned of a "dangerous" reaction to the allied plan, fuelling terrorism in the future.
“In the twilight of World War II we recognized the need for allies. We understood the need to prevent conflict, not just fight it, and we affirmed the idea that we must banish from the world what President Harry Truman, addressing the founding of the United Nations, called "the fundamental philosophy of our enemies, namely, that 'might makes right.” "Truman went on to say that we must "prove by our acts that right makes might."
"“Since September 11, America has been in a similar position: the most powerful nation in the world, but facing a deadly enemy. The United States has the opportunity to use the power of the international institutions it established to triumph over terrorists who threaten not just the United States, but also the world. What a tragedy it will be if we walk away from our own efforts, and from 60 years of post-World War II experience, to tackle the problem of terror without using fully the instruments of international law and persuasion that we ourselves created.” An Army of One? Gen. Wesley Clark"I'm not sure which planet they live on" “Hawks in the Bush administration may be making deadly miscalculations on Iraq,” says Gen. Anthony Zinni, Bush's Middle East envoy. “I don't see that that's necessary. (War on Iraq) Second of all, I think that war and violence are a very last resort, and we have to be careful how we apply it, especially now in our position in the world.”

"Is building empire, furthering the wealth of the wealthiest people on the planet worth this young man’s life?"
Is building the power of Oligarchy and further empowering the most powerful individuals on the planet worth the killing of innocent children anywhere on the planet?
Do you want to let multinational corporations call the shots for you and your family’s futures?
"Then before you support this war I suggest you go beyond what the mainstream press and government are feeding you. "
Think about it – one man has killed thousands of people we have killed millions. Is this a just war or a war for Just-Us?
In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “We need them (the Peacemakers) because the thunder of their fearless voices will be the only sound stronger than the blasts of bombs and the clamor of war hysteria.”

>Ronald Reagan aged 93, died of pneumonia at his home in Bel-Air California, on the 5th of June, 2004. He was the fortieth president of the USA. I look at your flag draped coffin sitting in the US Capital Rotunda. I visualize you laying inside, your hands folded across your body. Yes, you too were mortal. You traveled with the elite. Dignitaries attended your viewing. Common folks had to wait in long lines. I saw you being carried in a caisson, used to carry artillery, ammunition, and coffins. I saw the horse carrying your boots, strapped backwards and empty, in the stirrups; how grotesque, I thought! Now you are dead, as are the folks who took their own lives, when you stopped their disability benefits. Do you remember being criticized for your insensitivity toward the disadvantaged? Do you remember Nancy being criticized for her lavish spending? Are you aware by 1982 "Trickle-Down Reaganomics" had failed? But, you made sure the military industrial complex was well taken care of. Shame on you! Your funeral was choreographed by you and Nancy, while you were being paid to be president. Ceremony was more important to you than feeding the hungry. But, it fit your lifestyle: give to the wealthy and take from the poor. Well, hell! Even in death you screw the people who are materially poor. Your funeral cost more than most would make in a hundred lifetimes. Think how many kids that money would feed, how many families it would house. While running for president you promoted a return to "traditional" values. You cultivated an "American West" image. I gotta tell ya, that "traditional" values thing really spooks me. Whenever I hear someone espousing that rhetoric I see the poor getting screwed! Correct me if I’m wrong, but under your administration The affluent became more wealthy, the underprivileged got poorer. And, the number of families living below the poverty line increased by one-third. Maybe you will meet them On the other side. You know who I’m talking about. The people you chased out of mental hospitals. Do you remember when poverty and welfare were at crisis levels in the 1980s? Remember declaring a war on drugs and government? Remember when you turned your back on the welfare state? You know, people who needed the most help. You must have known about the rise in suicides because of your attack on the poor, disabled, and people with mental disabilities. After your death I looked at the face and in the eyes of Nancy, my heart tells me two lives have come to an end. I do believe you had a fifty two year loving relationship with her. You as I in that respect are very fortunate people. I have heard you called a class warrior. You know, screw the materially poor, but lavish the wealthy. Kill social welfare programs and increase military funding - spending! Remember all the government workers you “riffed” to the streets as soon as you began your first term as president? I do, as they do. And their families remember you and your insensitivity too. Right on, you said! Your selective government cuts were Killer cuts! And you knew it! But you were flying high! “One for the Gipper!” Was it worth it? Yes you were mortal. Did you take your wealth and status to the grave? Did you know I had a theory as to why you were elected president of the USA? I believe people felt so powerless about their lives; they voted for a class “B” actor. They could feel reality was just a movie and they didn’t have to worry any-longer. Me on the other hand, every morning I went out to pick up our paper, and feared looking at the front page, because I was terrified you attacked some country with our nuclear weapons. Some called you the great communicator! Or, were you a master at communicating your own perceived greatness? You knew how important it was for you, yes I’m talking about you, to look good. After all, your profession was “acting.” Please understand me, Mr. Reagan. I mean your spirit no harm. But what you did has been done. I cannot be responsible for your crimes. You were the “feel good” president. You know what I mean. Make the poor feel good, while throwing the screws to them. How about your treatment of the environment? Do you remember saying “trees pollute?” How about James Watt? To paraphrase him, the environment is ours to Dominate! I remember very well your attacks on organized labor; your wicked policies set the stage for corporate downsizings. As you know this caused the dramatic rise in income inequality separating the haves from the have nots. How about your inflexible attack on PATCO, I hope you remember the air controllers union. How could you turn on your union brothers and sisters. On the other hand, I walked, in protest of you and your depraved policies, with these Sisters and Brothers of Humanity. They were People trying to make a living in a very competitive world. People trying to feed and cloth their Children, People who put others before themselves. People who honestly cared about the Constitution of the United States of America. This is one of the reasons you are known as the quintessential union buster. You didn’t have to worry for your self. You married a wealthy woman. You sold your soul to General Electric and the House Un-American Activities Committee. You knew you were on the “right track,” protect the wealthy – big business. Remember, 1952 you were president of the Screen Actor's Guild. You entered a liberal Democrat and became an anti-Communist and FBI informant, cooperating with McCarthy's HUAC. You even supported the blacklisting of your own colleagues. (House Un-American Activities Committee – HUAC) Ah! But you have done it before, you must remember the October 20, 1947 House Un-American Activities Committee. You were one of the “friendlies” testifying against your colleagues. The result for helping this evil committee was the ruin of the lives of the Hollywood Ten, They thought you were a friend, they trusted you. Why did you cooperate and give the committee names? You gave them names of your friends; they believed in you. I wonder how this made you feel. Was it worth it? The people you informed on weren’t bad people. Did your cooperation help you acquire a position hosting the General Electric Theater program? Remember, for the then amazing amount of $125,000 per year. How about your duties as a spokesman for GE, traveling the country at their expense touring factories and making speeches. Remember touting free enterprise and damning "Marx-inspired" programs like Medicare and Social Security? Interesting how in 1961, when questioned by a grand jury about the special consideration your union gave MCA, You, known for your near photographic memory, recurrently said under oath that “you couldn’t remember.” You did the same when questioned during the Iran Contra hearings. How convenient. I understand you acted as a hothead, with your tough-guy talk, against hippies, war protesters and campus activists. You stated "If it’s a bloodbath they want, so be it." I thought students went to school for scholarly purposes. No big deal, you were developing a "law and order" image for yourself. What’s this I heard? The year was 1967; you were governor, called the "fascist gun in the West." You ordered the California Highway Patrol and National Guard to occupy the Berkeley campus, with fixed bayonets, no less. Why this demonstration of force I ask? To protect the campus president's mansion, of course. And, did I hear the students were armed with text books? Shame on you, the Highway Patrol and the National Guard! Is this why during your presidency you developed policies which included, slashing federal grants for poor students and cutting survivor benefits for families of the disabled? I guess you believed only the wealthy were entitled to an education. Remember how your “humming economy” “energized by” your tax cuts; combined with your heavy military spending, produced crippling budget deficits? How about your callousness to the poor, and your failure to grasp America's multicultural destiny? While I’m at it, I will remind you and others that you did little to advance mainstream education or civil rights. This is what I read and how I read it as the words trickled down. "Reagonomics" is scrutinized: national debt has tripled, gap between rich and poor wider than ever, homelessness is rampant, AIDS becomes an epidemic. Quite a record, Ronnie. Under your presidential watch until October 1987 you did almost nothing on behalf of the AIDS epidemic which led directly to massive setbacks for HIV/AIDS research, intolerance against people with AIDS, and the lack of any inclusive outreach for AIDS prevention or education work. Not until October 1987 did you speak publicly about the AIDS epidemic. However, by the end of that year 59,572 AIDS cases had been reported and 27,909 of those women and men had died. Have you met these souls as you crossed over? I hope you have met each and every one of them! Adding insult to injury: by the end of 1989 and your administration, 115,786 women and men had been diagnosed with AIDS in the United States, and more than 70,000 of them had died. Why this indifference, emotional callousness, and greed for political power? I understand your unwillingness to support people with or at risk of acquiring AIDS came about because of contempt, self-imposed ignorance, and political surrender to the rising wave of a new, stalwart, backward-looking, extreme right wing Christian Republican constituency that was to restructure not only the Republican Party but the dignity of American politics as well. By the way Mr. President, Remember the Savings and Loan debacle? I and others recognize your administration's zeal for deregulation of that industry which helped create the savings and loan disaster, which left taxpayers holding the bag for billions of dollars in losses. Here we go again! The poor paying for the greed of the wealthiest. What a romance you had with your banking associates! Remember “Nancy Reagan Red” and her “just say no” campaign? Well Ronnie, why didn’t you “just say no” to your banking buddies? Ah! You knew what they wanted and you gave it to them. Whose side were you on? I know it wasn’t the family farmer’s. I believe it was agribusiness and the banking industry. Is this what you want to be remembered for? Well, I must admit the celebration of your death was spectacular! You and Nancy planned it very well. It was a larger than life event in itself! However, people I know think it was a waste of money! Propaganda at it’s finest! Money that could be used to feed the poor, house the homeless and create jobs for the unemployed. That money could have been used on quality education for children of all nations. Well, you may have done something good. Rumor has it none of us are all bad. You did appoint the first woman to the U.S. Supreme Court. My question, has she benefited the masses or the most wealthy and powerful? Oh! Did I mention U.S. Supreme Court? Oooo yes! Sandra Day O’ Connor helped “appoint” the forty third president of the U.S.A. How did you feel about that? Well, I wrote a poem about the appointment. “George W or George W.” George W the first was our first president. Will George W the second be our last? Hmmm, I believe your access to the presidency, was a sleazy process also, after all you became known as the "Teflon president.” I heard something about you negotiating with Ayatollah Khomeini. You asked him to hold the hostages in Iran long enough for you to win the election. Upon your exit as president you and your administration were noted as; flat-out the most anti-democratic, hoodwinking, lying, Constitution-flouting, rich-enriching, deficit-building, environment-despoiling, health-endangering, paranoid, cynical and fundamentally corrupt administration in our nation’s history. Remember 1986, you, or should I say when your administration, sold arms to Islamic fundamentalist in Iran? The purpose to gain release of American hostages in Lebanon. We know differently, don’t we. You knew very well, the profits were being used to supply anti-Marxist Contra guerrillas fighting in Nicaragua. Remember November 1979 when 52 Americans were taken hostage in Iran? Remember January 20, 1981, the day you were inaugurated as president of the USA? Remember the release of the hostages on that date. You are not the only person who knows you made a deal with the Iranian government to hold the hostages until that date. You and your allies set it up so you and Bush the first would be elected. Dirty politics, yes. Fair to the citizens of the USA, no. So Bush the second is not the only person to acquire the presidency of the USA by fraud. You said we the people of the USA live in a Democracy; I say you lied! Was it worth it? You knew the plight of these innocent humans were in your hands. That leftist politicians, union leaders and human rights activists who were kidnapped, tortured and/or murdered by the Salvadoran death squads. You know, the same Contras you supported illegally. How sad! Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of defenseless peasants were slaughtered in the Guatemalan highlands. The good news was that the Tower Committee found you responsible for a "lax management style and trading arms for hostages." Of course, after you are caught you finally admit that there was an arms-for-hostages deal with Iran. "Congress will not formally investigate charges that the Reagan campaign stole the election in 1980, in large part because Israel's supporters on Capitol Hill do not want to put the spotlight on Israel's role, which during that period sold weapons to Iran in blatant disregard of President Carter." Richard H. Curtiss, a retired US foreign service officer, is executive editor of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. Some people maintain the Iran-Contra fiasco was a more impeachable offense than Watergate. What do you think? Knowing what you know now, Would you do it again today? Here we are in the year 2004. Others have said, and I believe, your actions helped us get to where we are today. What do I mean? Your relationship with Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. Some tell us the September 11, 2001 attack on the USA was initiated by radical Islamic Fundamentalists, because they were “jealous of our lifestyle.” That they want our freedoms and democracy. Others tell us, Osama bin Laden included, that they are unhappy with our invasion and occupation of Islamic countries. Imagine the nerve of him, after you trained him and all! Remember your cynical promotion of Islamic fundamentalism, as a weapon against the Soviets in Afghanistan? Well, we are still paying for this doctrine of yours in blood. And, how about your alliance of convenience with Saddam Hussein against Iran? And, the forging of a new "tactical relationship" with Israel? And, how about your corrupt dealings with the House of Saud? What other shoddy relationships you had during your lifetime we may never know. According to a 9/23/02 Newsweek, article “During the Reagan years, the U.S. offered significant support to Iraq, including weapons components, military intelligence, and even some of the ingredients for manufacturing biological weapons like anthrax.” Now what’s all the fuss about today? You gave it to them! What’s this I’ve heard about “you” defeating Communism? Some say it was Mikhail Gorbachev, some say it was you. They say it takes two to tango or tangle. Maybe both of you ended the cold war with lots of help from Human Beings. I cried with Nancy the night she hugged your coffin. Your daughter, Patti came and hugged her. As did Michael & Ron. My sadness came as the result of seeing two lives end at the same time. My feelings of sadness weren’t so much about you and Nancy. It had more to do with my thinking of my life with Mary. It had to do with thinking about beloved ones I have lost and loved ones I will lose. It came about because I am human and we have these kinds of thoughts and feelings. With all said and done, you as I are not perfect. I can’t help but have a soft spot in my heart for you, after all you were human. Well Ronnie, here it is the 4th of July, I’ve worked on this ode for almost a month. Last week Mary and I were walking in Lancaster, NY. A very strong breeze was blowing through the trees. I can still hear the wonderful voices of the elders. Yes, I have been told by indigenous people, that these beautiful breezes whispering through the tree tops, are the voices of the Elders. I asked Mary if your voice would be included with the ones we were hearing. To tell you the truth Ronnie, I don’t think you could ever be included with these noble spirits. I believe it is people like you who assumed native people were in the way of “progress.” What a wonderful experience, hearing the Elders whisper to Mary and myself. Yes, you too were mortal. You traveled with the elite. Dignitaries attended your viewing. Common folks had to wait in long lines. Well Ron, was it worth it? This Ode is dedicated to My Aunt Bet who died on July 4th 1995. I just received an email from a friend, reviewing the violent nature of football. I replied by asking. How about boxing? How about control of the world economy by multinational corporations? How about the oppressive nature of industrialized – imperialist countries like the USA & Britain? How about select corporations who are making billions from the war on Iraq? And how about the individuals tied to these corporations, making money the likes of which you and I will never see. Making that money off the blood of our young women and men who are serving in Iraq. Think about those humans’ young and old, male and female, who are being slaughtered in the Middle East. For what? I will tell you, it is not for democracy! How about corporations that strip us of our humanity? Corporations that rape the planet. Corporations that don’t have loyalty to any nation or people. Corporations whose only interest is materialistic profit and power. If you don’t agree check out what Adam Smith, Jefferson and Lincoln had to say about corporations.
Part of the problem is that we live in a state of competition. We live in a “dominator paradigm.” I maintain that we need to move from competition to cooperation. I believe we don't need to live within the "false democracy" we presently subscribe to. I suggest we think about moving from a false democracy to Egalitarianism. Egalitarianism is a way of life that affirms and promotes the belief in equal political, economic, social and civil rights for all people.
Rumor/research tells us that during the Goddess Era some seven thousand years ago in Mesopotamia, people lived in peace guided by an egalitarian philosophy. There were no symbols of violence like football. Nothing to lead us to believe it was a competitive society. However, there is abundant evidence they lived cooperatively. Research from this era found no symbols of war. Yet, symbols of fertility, nurturing, and of humanity were found.
Rumor/research tells us that humans from birth to the grave have the potential to be either violent or peaceful. From my readings on altruism I have been led to believe that humans do very little by instinct. We are creatures of learning. Experience leads me to believe we have been taught to be competitive, destructive, evil, and all the adjectives that relate to those types of behaviors.
September 11, 2001 was a wakeup call for all of us. The problem is that some of us are not quite awake yet.
Why do I say it was a wakeup call? Because I believe if we truly lived with love in our hearts and fairness in our minds instead of an “I want it all” attitude, we would return to the paradigm of peace. If we treated all humans throughout the world with love and respect, we wouldn't have events like September 11, 2001 or the My Lai Massacre. There would be no atrocities like the twelve years of sanctions we placed on Iraq, that killed over a million Iraqi people, over half of them children. There would be no more Holocausts. We wouldn’t have armed forces all over the world protecting “our interests.” No, we would be assisting humans in need instead of ensuring they are being controlled by dictators we place and support in power. Yes, the placement and support of these dictators is to “protect our interests.”
I contend that if people lived in peace some seven thousand years ago but changed to being evil after the Greek Gods came in and violently destroyed the paradigm of Peace. And, from that time forward people have been taught to be competitive, destructive & evil. Well, if these are learned behaviors, why not reverse the paradigm again from “dominator” to “cooperator.” Why not humans living with rather than against the creatures we are sharing this planet with. I envision, living cooperatively with nature as opposed to being ruthless, uncaring and destructive.
Oh, by the way, football is violent.

Yesterday a driver who used to work with us was discussing his new profession. Selling air purifiers.
I said, us working folks can only afford to purchase so much. He said, I can make it easy on you for a small amount down and payments...
I said, that's the problem we buy, buy, buy, put it on credit, we make the wealthy wealthier and us poor folks poorer.
He said, well you can be obstinate if you want to be.
My observation:
The hard sell, e.g. make me the consumer feel guilty for not making his boss wealthier.
Credit, Credit, easy credit
Come and get it
Come on now don’t forget it
Get it, your easy credit
So easy! Yes! So easy!
Someone say it’s sleazy?
Does it make you queasy?
Get it, don’t forget it, your easy credit
On demand, I'll make it easy
You owe it too me, now pay it! You see!
Who said I'm sleazy?
